Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Neapolis meaning "New City", was an ancient city of Apulia, Italy, not mentioned by any ancient writer, but the existence of which is attested by its coins. There seems good reason to place it at Polignano a Mare, between Barium (modern Bari) and Egnatia (near modern Fasano), where numerous relics of antiquity have been discovered. Apulia is a region in Southern Italy bordering the Adriatic Sea in the east, the Ionian Sea to the southeast, and the Strait of Òtranto and Gulf of Taranto in the south. Its most southern portion, known as Salento peninsula, forms a high heel on the "boot" of Italy.
