John Codd was an Irish national who, after being captured as a British Army corporal during World War II, went on to serve in the German Intelligence service (Abwehr) and SS Intelligence.Codd was born in Mountrath, County Laois, but emigrated to Canada in 1929. He moved from Canada to Britain in 1931 and enlisted in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. His educational background was limited; but he is known to have spoken fluent Spanish, French, and Chinese.
