Peraia (Greek: Περαία) is a suburb of Thessaloniki, located southeast of the city centre, along the coast of the Thermaic Gulf. GR-16 is located to the east and formerly passed through Peraia. Peraia is part of the municipality Thermaikos.Peraia began its history in 1923 when refugees from Asia Minor and Eastern Thrace arrived during the Asia Minor Catastrophe. 37,387 refugees lived in 75 refugee camps throughout the Thessaloniki area. From these, 1,745 left for the southeastern shores of the Thermaic Gulf and created three settlemetns, Agia Triada, Neoi Epivates and Peraia.
