Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. FDML (Flow Description Markup Language) is a now obsolete XML language from IBM used for making executable business process models for WebSphere Application Server (WAS). FDML is node-based and weakly related to WSFL. As of version 6.0 of the WAS, it has been replaced by BPEL (a block-based language) and is no longer supported. XML's design goals emphasize simplicity, generality, and usability over the Internet. It is a textual data format with strong support via Unicode for the languages of the world. Although the design of XML focuses on documents, it is widely used for the representation of arbitrary data structures, for example in web services.
