The population according to the 2000 census was 17,811. The district covers a total area of 608 km². The capital lies at the city of Natá. The provinces of Panama and some of the comarcas are divided into districts (distrito). The district are further divided into corregimientos of Panama. Coclé is a province of central Panama on the nation's southern coast. The capital is the city of Penonomé. This province was created by the Act of September 12, 1855 with the title of Department of Coclé during the presidency of Dr. Justo de Arosemena.
