How many people have started an exercise program only
to stop after a few days or weeks? How many have
signed up for a gym membership only to never swipe
their shiny new cards? And how many have thrown
money away on exercise DVD?s still wrapped in
cellophane? People typically have good intentions
but cannot seem to continue or sometimes even begin
to exercise. Shouldn?t we want to exercise and want
to feel good? While people may realize the
importance of physical activity, they have difficulty
adhering to an active lifestyle. For many is not what
they need to do, but rather how to incorporate
regular physical activity into their already busy
life narrative. An intervention curriculum was
designed to facilitate an increase in objective &
subjective commitment to physical activity &
implemented using class instruction & lessons online
consisting of new ways to view exercise and movement.
The focus is on shifting thoughts of exercise to a
life story approach, and this appears to have an
effect on the values of participants. For those
interested in finding a way to stick with exercise
without dreading it, for researchers or practitioners
interested in increasing exercise adherence.
