A water balloon or water bomb is a latex rubber balloon filled with water. Because of how water balloons' latex breaks under stress, they are often thrown and launched at targets, resulting in wetness. They are commonly used in water balloon fights and as a practical joke device. The creator of the water balloon was Edgar Ellington, an Englishman at the age of 32 when his invention was made, who lived from May 27, 1918 to May 30, 1989. At the time Ellington was trying to invent a waterproof sock to solve the disease known as trench foot, a disability normally acquired by soldiers stationed in trenches for extended periods of time during World War I and II.
