Raimonds Vējonis (born June 15, 1966 in Pskov Oblast, Russia) is a Latvian politician of the Green Party and the incumbent Minister of the Environment of Latvia and acting Minister for Regional Development and Local Governments of Latvia. He has a Masters in biology from the University of Latvia. Pskov Oblast is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast). Pskov Oblast borders the European Union countries of Estonia and Latvia, as well as Belarus. It is the westernmost federal subject of contiguous Russia (i.e. excluding the exclave of Kaliningrad Oblast). Its major cities are the administrative center Pskov (pop. 202,000) and Velikiye Luki (pop. 104,000).
