Elections to Manchester City Council are scheduled to take place on 3 May 2012, on the same day as other United Kingdom local elections, 2012. One third of the council will be up for election, with those councillors elected in the Manchester Council election, 2008 defending their seats this time with vote share changes compared on that basis. Manchester City Council is the local government authority for Manchester, a city and metropolitan borough in Greater Manchester, England. It is composed of 96 councillors, three for each of the 32 electoral wards of Manchester. Currently the council is controlled by the Labour Party. The Council is led by Sir Richard Leese with Sir Howard Bernstein as chief executive. Many, but not all, of the council's staff are based at Manchester Town Hall.
