Elisabeth Beresford MBE, (also known as Liza, born 1928) is an author of children's books, best known for creating the Wombles. Her father was writer J. D. Beresford and her godparents included Walter de la Mare, Cecil Day-Lewis and Eleanor Farjeon. As well as writing 20 Wombles books, she has written a variety of adventure and mystery books for children. She still writes. Elisabeth Beresford was awarded an MBE for her services to children's literature in the 1998 New Year's Honours List. She married the BBC tennis commentator and broadcaster Max Robertson in 1949; they divorced in the 1980s.
