This book is all about the significance of the moment in the poetry – both love poems and divine - of Donne. In his life also Donne was consistently in search of a moment , an instant , a speck of Time , when he could find his self , his self-identity and also identify himself with another self in the shape of a beloved in this material world and in the shape of God in the spiritual world . Donne transferred this search from his personal life to his poetry and sermons. All - his life, his poems and his sermons – become a part of his integrated consciousness at the centre of which there is this search for the moment of identity. In this world Donne, the man and the poet, finds himself to be lost. Sometimes this loss puts himself in depression and consequently he starts to think of suicide. But soon he recovers himself and decides to make a search for his real self.
