Clarence Edward "Butch" Metzger (born on May 23, 1952 in Lafayette, Indiana) is a former Major League Baseball player. Metzger was a relief pitcher, specifically a closer. Metzger played for three different teams during his five years in the majors; the San Francisco Giants in 1974, the San Diego Padres from 1975 to 1977 and finally with the New York Mets from 1977 to 1978. After playing high school baseball at John F. Kennedy high school in Sacramento, California, Metzger was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1970 amateur draft by the San Francisco Giants. Metzger made his major league debut on September 8, 1974 with the San Francisco Giants. Metzger played limitedly, pitching 12.7 innings and posting a 3.55 ERA.
