Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. On December 3, 1992, the double-bottom Greek-flagged tanker Aegean Sea, en route to Repsol refinery in A Coruña, Spain, suffered an accident off the Galician coast. It had successfully passed all required tests and revisions. When the ship was about to enter the docks of A Coruña, the wind speed was above 100 kilometres per hour (54 kn), and visibility was under 100 metres (110 yd). This made it loose its assigned route and wreck. The ship broke off and exploded under the Tower of Hercules, causing 50-metre (160 ft) tall flames and spilling more than 70,000 tons of oil into the ocean.
