Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. This article is a list of the railway stations in Eritrea. The Eritrean Railway originally ran from Massawa, a port on the Red Sea, via the capital Asmara to Agordat. The line can be divided into three sections. The route was built between 1887 and 1910 by the Italians, who made the two main stations (Asmara and Massawa) with typical structures of railway stations in small Italian cities. As of 2008, this is the only section open. Dogali is a town in eastern Eritrea near Massawa. It became famous for the Battle of Dogali in 1887-01-24 between Italy and Ethiopia. The Battle of Dogali was fought on January 24, 1887 between Italy and Ethiopia in Dogali (near Massawa, in present-day Eritrea). On his own initiative, Ras Alula Engida, then governor of Emperor Yohannes IV, had attacked the Italian-controlled town of Sahati on the day prior. Hundreds of his men were slaughtered by cannon fire, while only 4 Italians were injured, forcing Ras Alula to pull his men back.
