Blurb/Shorttext:
A white sandy beach, the sun is shining, the sea is crystal clear. A woman poses on the beach in a bikini. She has long blonde hair, the focus of the picture is on her well-toned, slim, tanned body. A stereotypical image of the media, which is supposed to represent female surfers and the cool lifestyle of the surf scene. Only that this is an image created by the media and has hardly anything to do with reality. Amateur and professional sportswomen oppose the sexualised and discriminatory portrayal of women in surfing, which has many disadvantages for female surfers. The debate about the media portrayal of women in sport must therefore be conducted in public. This Master's thesis examines the topic in more detail and shows, based on the scientific evaluation, which inequalities arise for female surfers in the sports scene and which wrenching effects this has on women in different areas of society.
