Adaptations and the study of them have always been popular and difficult. In this book Hayao Miyazaki’s film adaptation of the novel “Howl’s Moving Castle” by Diana Wynne Jones is analyzed. In the first part attention is paid to anime in general and to director Hayao Miyazaki and his style specifically. The English and Japanese cultural context is also considered. In the second part the film and novel are examined by using the medium specific adaptation theory. In the last part the transformational adaptation theory is used to explore important themes and give some interpretation.
