Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The province of Île-de-France (French pronunciation: [il də fʁɑ̃s]) or Isle de France (as it was once written, as sometimes in English, especially in old publications) is an ancient province of France, and the one at the centre of power during most of French history. The ancient province centred on Paris, the seat of the Crown of France, but it does not map the same territory as the present-day région Île-de-France: some parts of the ancient province now are incorporated in the present-day region of Picardy, whereas other parts of the present-day région Île-de-France are taken from the ancient province of Champagne.
