Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Yamagumo was a Asashio-class destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy. She was responsible for sinking USS Sculpin (SS-191) on 19 November 1943. She picked up forty-two survivors from the sunken submarine, and transferred them to Truk. On 25 October 1944, Yamagumo escorted the Southern Force commanded by Admiral Nishimura Shoji into the Battle of Surigao Strait. Torpedoed by USS McDermut (DD-677) in the Surigao Strait, she blew up and sank, with only 2 survivors.
