Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The R404 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects George with Herolds Bay. On 7 December 2009 an Embraer ERJ 135 aircraft operated by Airlink on a scheduled flight (SA-8625) overrun the runway at George Airport in wet conditions and ended up on the R404. Regional Roads are secondary highways in South Africa linking pairs of cities or serving as feeder roads to the National Road network from cities not situated on National Roads. They are divided into major regional roads, indicated by an "R" followed by a two-digit number, and minor regional roads, indicated by an "R" followed by a three-digit number. Although most regional roads are maintained by the provincial road authority, this is not universally the case; in provinces which lack capacity some may be under the control of the National Roads Agency, and in urban areas they may be ordinary streets under the control of the municipal roads department. Designation as a regional road also does not imply any particular size of road; they range from gravel roads to multi-lane freeways.
