On the left bank of the Niger River, 350 km from Bamako, the capital of Mali, stretches the Inner Niger Delta, also known as the Dead Delta (Map 1 and 2). The delta is the source of a great diversity of human activities (agriculture, fishing, transhumant cattle breeding, etc.). These activities are carried out according to the height of the water, and therefore according to the seasons. This is how during the rainy season (when the plain is full of water), fishermen and farmers take over the place.
