A presidential election was held in Zimbabwe on 23 March 1990 alongside simultaneous parliamentary elections. It was the first time that the president had been popularly elected, following the creation of an executive presidency in 1987. The election was contested by the incumbent Robert Mugabe, and former minister Edgar Tekere. Mugabe won, claiming over 80% of the vote. There were 4,799,333 voters registered for the election.
